Tumoideachas
'Sé an tumoideachas an modh oideachais a úsáidimid anseo i Scoil Náisiúnta Cillín Liath. Tá na páistí á dtumadh go hiomlán sa Ghaeilge. 'Sí an Ghaeilge teanga cumarsáide agus foghlama an churaclaim ina iomláine.
Níl an modh oideachais seo in úsáid anseo in Éirinn amháin. Meastar go bhfuil idir 60% agus 75% de dhaonra an domhain dátheangach. Is cur chuige oideachais comónta é a mbaintear leas as ar fud an domhain i dtíortha ar nós an Chatalóin, Tír na mBascach, Ceanada, An Astráil, an Nua Shéalainn, an Fhionlainn, an Ungáir, Deisceart na hAfraice, an Bhreatain Bheag agus Albain.
Léiríonn an taighde náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta go soiléir go bhfuil ciall le tosnú ar an luathlitearthacht sa sprioctheanga (Gaeilge) seachas i mBéarla agus 'sé seo an cúis nach mbíonn Béarla múinte go foirmiúil againn sna Naíonáin Shóisreacha agus Shinsireacha. 'Siad na príomhbhuntáistí a bhaineann le tumoideachas ná;

Immersion education is the model of education used here in Scoil Náisiúnta Cillín Liath. The children are fully immersed in the Irish language. Irish is the language of communication and learning for the entire curriculum.
This method of education is not only used in Ireland. It is estimated that between 60% and 75% of the world is bilingual. Bilingual education is a common educational approach used throughout the world in countries such as the Basque Country, Catalonia, Canada, Australia, Finland, Hungary, New Zealand, South Africa, Wales and Scotland.
All native and international research findings confirm the advantages of introducing early-literacy in the target language (Irish) rather than in English and this is the reason why we don't formally teach English in Junior and Senior Infants. The main advantages of immersion education are;

- 'sé an córas is fearr do shealbhú na Gaeilge.
- forbróidh páistí an dá theanga.
- tá páistí i bhfad thar an meán náisiúnta i léitheoireacht an Bhéarla sna scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge agus tá ag éirí leo thar an meán náisiúnta sa mhatamaitic freisin.
- is cabhair é an luath-thumoideachas chun timpeallacht láidir theangeolaíochta a chruthú agus cothóidh sé an Ghaeilge mar theanga cumarsáide na bpáistí.
- foghlaimeoidh páistí an Ghaeilge ar dtús agus ansin aistreoidh siad na scileanna litearthachta seo go héasca go dtí an Béarla.
- tá an tumoideachas oiriúnach do gach páiste, paistí le riachtanais speisialta oideachais agus páistí faoi mhíchumais san áireamh.
- tá ag éirí le páistí gaelscoile i gceantair faoi mhíbhuntáiste chomh maith céanna sa Bhéarla le páistí atá ag freastal ar scoil trí Bhéarla.
- léiríonn páistí dátheangacha acmhainneacht níos airde i bhfoghlaim an tríú teanga.
- bíonn páistí na ngaelscoileanna níos oscailte agus fáilteach don ilchineálacht cultúrtha.
- foghlaimíonn páistí dátheangacha conas léamh níos taipiúla ná a gcuid piaraí aonteangacha.
- tugann sé deiseanna fostaíochta níos leithne sa saol níos déanaí.

- it is proven to be the most successful approach to Irish-language acquisition.
- children will develop competence in both Irish and English.
- children in Irish-medium schools are performing well above the national average in English reading and above the national average in mathematics.
- early-immersion helps maintain a robust linguistic environment thus supporting it as the language of communication between children.
- children will learn Irish first and then transfer the literacy skills acquired with ease to English.
- immersion education is suitable for all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
- children attending Irish-medium schools in areas of socioeconomic disadvantage perform equally as well in English as children in English-medium schools.
- bilingual students display greater facility in learning a third language.
- children attending Irish-medium schools are more open and welcoming of cultural diversity.
- bilingual children learn to read more rapidly than their monolingual peers.
- provides a greater variety of employment opportunities in later life.
