Lá Spóirt

Beidh ár lá Spóirt ar siúl ar an 27ú nó ar an 28ú an mhí seo. Braitheann sé ar an aimsir. Beidh sé ar siúl ar scoil.
Our Sport's Day will take place on the 27th or the 28th of this month, depending on the weather. It will take place on the school grounds.


Stay Safe Programme

Official Opening of our School Garden

Bishop Raymond Browne will officially open our garden on the 19th June after the 25 year celebration mass of Our Lady of the Valley Church. All Welcome!


Our Lady of the Valley - 25 years old!!

A mass celebrated by Bishop Ray Browne and past priests of our local church will take place on Sunday 19th June 2016 @ 3pm. The school choir is again called upon to take an active role in the mass. Children who celebrated their First Holy Communion can again wear their very special Communion clothes for the ceremony. Rang 3, 4, 5 agus 6 shall wear their uniform.


Naí Shóis- Rang 1 - School Tour Date 24th June 2016

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class will go to Kells Garden for their school tour on the 24th June 2016. Children will be going exploring and adventuring. There will be a charge of €10 for this trip.

Your child will need the following for their tour.

Rang 2 - 6 - School Tour Date - 24th June 2016

Rang 2 - 6 will go to Tralee for their school tour as outlined in an earlier post. We will depart from New Chapel in Waterville at 7a.m!! 

Your child will need the following for the tour 
Packed lunch
Plenty of liquids
Sports clothing for Active Kingdom (John Mitchels)
Swimming togs
Towel
Swimming hat 
Goggles
A €1 coin for locker in aquadome
No other money is required - there will be no opportunity to spend it!!!
No mobile phones/ gadgets required. We will send a text to parents with time of our return.


Éide Scoile/ School Uniform

It's great to see children wearing their school uniforms each day.As the weather is getting warmer, your child may wear navy short pants to keep them cool.


Anxiety Workshop with Play Therapist

Please find attached a poster with details of an anxiety workshop in Cahersiveen. Anxiety is a growing concern within families today. The session shall include practical and positive tips on dealing with the anxiety in children and she is available to take questions and provide positive and practical tips. Aonach na Leabhair - Book Fair

The Book Fair will visit the school on Wednesday 18th May and will remain in the school for one week. Opening times to follow later!


An Chéad Comaoineach Naofa

Our First Holy Communion Mass will take place on 28th May 2016 @ 11am sharp. Children in 4th, 5th and 6th will take part in the choir on the day. Children do not have to wear uniforms on the day.

Its that time of year again - time for report cards to be sent out. We would appreciate if you could send one 70c stamp or 70c to school with you child to enable us to send out your child's report in June.

Beidh Blitz Cispheil eagraithe ag John Teahan, ar siúl Dé hAoine seo chugainn, an 29ú Aibreán 2016 i gColáiste na Sceilge. Beidh ár gcéad gcluiche ar siúl ag a deich a chlog ar maidin. Beidh síobanna ag teastáil uainn (3 gluaisteán) chun na páistí a iompar isteach go Cathair Saidhbhín.

​A basketball blitz organised by John Teahan will take place this Friday the 29th April 2016 in Coláiste na Sceilge.Our first match will be played at 10 o' Clock. We need people to drive the children to Cahersiveen on Friday (3 cars). Please ring office if you are available for driving duties. Thank you in advance.

Ní bheidh aon club obair bhaile ar an 21ú Aibreán toisc go bhfuil na páistí ar thuras scoile.
No homework club will take place on 21st April as the children are going on a tour on that day.

Comórtas Scileanna Peil - Buachaillí
Football Skills Competition​

Beidh comórtas scileanna peil ar siúl ar an 28ú Aibreán sa Con Keating Park i gCathair Saibhín @ 12;45in. Only three boys from 6th class can be chosen to go to the competition on that day. We will also have 1 sub on the off chance that someone is ill on the day. This decision will be made on Tuesday 26ú Aibreán.

Turas Scoile 2016

I mbliana, beimid ag dul go dtí Trá Lí ar ár dturas scoile. Beimid ag tabhairt cuairt ar Active Kingdom agus an Aquadome. 'Sé an costas ar an dturas ná €28. 
We will be going to Tralee on this years school tour. We will visit Active Kingdom and the Aquadome. The tour will cost €28. The children may break up the cost of the school tour by paying in instalments. See Information below.

Cuairt ar Banna Strand chun Sir Roger Casement a chéiliúradh.

On Thursday, the 21st of April, we will travel to Banna Strand to attend the commemoration of Sir Roger Casement.
The President of Ireland Mr Michael D. Higgins will present his key note address and there will be performances by Siamsa Tire, Brendan Ó Beaglaoich & Declan McCarthy (actor) at the event.
 There will be both a naval vessel in attendance and a military flyover on the day​.
 RTE have confirmed that they will be there to cover the event.
​Children from 2nd to 6th class will attend the event and there is a charge of €8 for the bus.

Banaltra HSE

Beidh banaltra na scoile ag teach chuig an scoil ar an Luan seo chugainn, an 18ú Aibreán 2016. Beidh sí ag scrúdú páistí sna ranganna seo a leanas: Naíonáin Shóisearacha, Naíonáin Shinsearacha, Rang 1 agus Rang 6.

The school nurse will visit the school on Monday next, the 18th April 2016. She will examine eyesight, hearing and weight of children in Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First class and Sixth class. If you have any concerns about your child and he/ she is not in the classes being examined, please contact us and we will do our best to get them checked.

Mini Sevens Football Competition

This competition will take place on Thurs 7th April 2016 in the Con Keating Park in Cahersiveen. Games will commence at 10am sharp. 4th, 5th and 6th class will take part. We will be playing against Filemore/Coars,  Caherciveen boys, Caherdaniel and St Finians. Children will require packed lunch, their football kit and gum shields. Children will not be allowed play without gum shields.

Parents Plus - for parents of children aged 6 -12 years

The Family Resource Centre in Caherciveen are willing to present a series of sessions for parents entitled Parents Plus in S.N. Cillín Liath. These sessions will be easygoing and fun and will explore topics such as 
                        dealing with misbehaviour and tantrums
                        sibling rivalry
                        positive discipline skills
                        issues and concern that parents face
This course will inspire you within your special role as parent. The sessions will take place at a time that suits ye!
If you are interested in partaking in these sessions, please ring the school office before Friday 8th April. 

Club Obair Bhaile -Rang a 6

Beidh club obair bhaile ag tosú ar an Luan 11ú Aibreán do Rang a 6. Beidh an chlub ar siúl gach lá ón Luan go Déardaoin ó 3i.n. go dtí 4.30i.n. Beidh tutor sa rang leis na bpáistí chun cabhrú leo lena obair bhaile. 
We are setting up a homework club for 6th class. It will begin on Mon 11th April from 3pm - 4.30pm. It will take place every evening from Mon to Thurs. A tutor will be present to help children with their homework - to listen to reading, spellings and cater for any other needs that may arise. It will also promote your child's independence while providing a quiet environment to develop your child's concentration skills in preparation for 
Secondary School.

Tráth na gCeist - Seachtain na Gaeilge

Beidh Scoil na Coara ag teacht go S.N. Cillín Liath ar an gCéadaoin 16ú Márta 2016 le haghaidh Tráth na gCeist trí mheán na Gaeilge. Beidh dhá Tráth na gCeist ar siúl ó 10:00rn - 11:45rn: ceann do Naíonáin Shóis. - Rang 2 agus ceann do Rang 3 - 6. 

Coars N.S. will visit S.N. Cillín Liath at 10:00am to 11:30am on Wednesday 16th March 2016 for a quiz through the medium of Irish for Seachtain na Gaeilge. Two quizzes will take place: one for Junior Infants to Rang 2 and Another quiz for Rang 3- Rang 6.

I would like to thank the children of S.N. Cillín Liath that took part in the Céilí Glas today. Ye were great and it is very clear to see that dancing skills have improved.

Ba mhaith liom buíochas a rá dos na tuismitheoirí a d'ullmhaigh soláistí deasa dúinn don céilí glas. táimid fíor-bhuíoch díbh.
I would also like to thank the parents who attended and prepared treats and refreshments for the parents and children. We are very thankful for your co-operation.

Ba mhaith liom buíochas a thabhairt chomh maith do Norrita Cronin a mhúin na páistí na rincí éagsúla le cúig seachtaine anuas. Bhí sí go hiontach!
I would like to say a huge thank you to Norrita Cronin who taught the children various dances and steps for the last five weeks. She was great!

Thank you also to the Parents Association for paying for these lessons. Whether the children admitted it or not we guarantee you they enjoyed the lessons!!

Thank you also to the teachers who practised the dances with the children.

Thank you too to the children who helped us with the parts of the dances we forgot!

We are skipping during Sos this week. We have lots of skipping ropes at school but you may bring your own skipping rope to school if you wish.

Céiliúradh Ardú Bratach na hÉireann agus an Céilí Glas/
​Raising of the Irish Flag and Céilí Glas
​15.03.'16

We will raise the Irish Flag that was presented to us by the Defence Forces at 12:45pm on 15th March 2016. We will then march to Halla Ionad na Dromoda whilst playing music we learned from Peter Mullarkey. We will then take part in our yearly Céilí Glas. Afterwards we will march back to school playing our marching tunes again. Children will wear their uniform on the day as a mark of respect to the Irish Flag.
